David Lynch Wants You to Become a Meditation Teacher
4th Annual David Lynch Weekend, November 13 – 16 at the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa
WHAT: Award-winning filmmaker David Lynch will be at Maharishi University of Management (MUM) in Fairfield, Iowa for the 4th Annual David Lynch Weekend, to launch the David Lynch Foundation’s national initiative to train 1,000 new teachers of the Transcendental Meditation technique. The new teachers will provide personalized meditation instruction to at-risk youth and adults in inner-city schools and colleges, homeless shelters, American Indian reservations and prisons. The training will be part of the new undergraduate and graduate education degree programs at MUM.
David Lynch will be joined during the weekend event by world-renowned quantum physicist John Hagelin, PhD, and brain researcher Fred Travis, PhD. Visitors are invited to attend discussions, meet MUM faculty, interact with students, and tour the campus.
David Lynch said of the Fairfield-based university, “Maharishi University of Management is a school for seekers of knowledge and enlightenment. It is a school where a student can get total knowledge and unfold his or her full potential, which is enlightenment. It is a school where students always say they feel they are a part of a family—there are no outcasts, no cliques. It is a very positive, loving, energetic, blissful environment. It is a school filled with support, creativity, and bliss—all positive values—and total knowledge.”
During the past four years, the David Lynch Foundation has provided scholarships for over 100,000 at-risk public and private school students to learn to meditate. Research on the meditating students has shown improved grades and test scores and decreased stress, anxiety, depression, and violence compared to non-meditating students.
“Unlike the current dismal job market for college grads, the demand for properly trained Transcendental Meditation teachers is huge,” said Heather Hartnett, spokesperson for the David Lynch Foundation. “The pay is excellent and the work is extremely fulfilling.”
The weekend event follows the Lynch Foundation’s “Change Begins Within” benefit concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City last April with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Donovan, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Moby, Sheryl Crow and friends. The concert helped raise the funds to teach one million at-risk youth to meditate.
